Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Roula Moussa is an established entrepreneurial leader, known for being results-driven and highly motivated when working in challenging environments. Owner and Managing Director at Netways, Roula has a diverse experience in building businesses, teams and identifying market opportunities in the Gulf & Middle East countries for more than 15 years. Roula is known as a key contributor to the Information Technology industry in the region where she has founded back in 1996, Netways, the first web development company in the Arab world. Netways is today one of the leading provider of business technology and e-Government solutions in the Middle East region. Holder of an engineering Diploma from the ESIB University (École Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de Beyrouth), Roula has an extensive background in IT and Telecommunication, having previously held various senior positions in regional companies and founded and acquired many start-ups in the IT field. Roula was appointed in 2012, as Head of The ICT Committee in LIBC (Lebanese International Business Council) and the General Manager of LARD (Lebanese Association for Rural Development) which focuses on the economic development of Akkar region in Lebanon.

Amer Tabsh, started his career at the age of 16 (1997), after being a loyal customer to one of the top 3 newly launched ISP in Lebanon and fixed their technically problems over the phone each day, they decided to offer him a strange position for his age. Customer Support manager at IntraCom and then technical manager he moved into several ISPs creating many improvements to reach Cyberia where after he jumped into the media world and launched the first Technology educational show in Lebanon and the Arab world in 2001 on Future Television. Since education was the purpose and technology is the aim, Amer decided to share his knowledge with the youth by supporting them and their ideas, helped many universities and school introduce tech and IT into their classes and campuses, supervised and managed the first unique digital archive and digital media department for his Excellency Martyr Rafic Hariri. Holder of many awards and accomplishments, invited to attend the world most important forums and conferences on technology, supervised the release of many tech blogs and tech news sites in the region he moved now into coaching the startups onto the road for success.

Ghassan Bejjani

Mr Ghassan Bejjani is a consultant and private investor based in Beirut and NY. He is a member of LIFE (Lebanese International Finance Executives) and is currently runnign a LIFE-backed initiative to reinvigorate the IT start-up ecosystem in Lebanon.

From 1998 to 2007, Mr Bejjani was a General Partner of Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, where he led investments in over 15 expansion-stage companies across the software, communications, internet infrastructure, security and IT services sectors.

Prior to that, from 1985 to 1998, Mr Bejjani was at Morgan Stanley & Co., where he built up and ran the Tokyo Derivatives Trading software application and support group, led the IT Client Technology group, and created and ran the global IT Strategic Investment and Business Development unit.

Mr Bejjani received an Engineering Diploma in Civil Engineering from L'Ecole Centrale de Paris in 1983 and an M.S. in Civil Engineering, Technology and Policy, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985.

Prof. Hamed Nassar, PhD

Electrical and Comptuer Engineering Department - Beirut Arab University

Prof. Nassar has taught numerous computer science and engineering courses and served as external examiner in universities in Egypt, USA, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, and Lebanon. He has published over 30 research papers in international journals and conferences, and over 50 scientific articles in local and international trade magazines. He has supervised over 30 MSc and PhD students, and refereed over 40 MSc and PhD theses. He has participated in the design and implementation of several IT mega projects, and evaluated funded research projects for the Ministry of Scientific Research, Egypt, King Saud University, KSA, and Arab Science Technology Foundation, UAE. Prof. Nassar has some administrative experience, as he served in Egypt as college dean (6 yrs), vice dean (5 yrs), chief information officer (2 yrs), head of monitoring committee of the national center for e-learning (2 yrs), and liaison officer for the international amateur radio union for the Arab region (1 yrs). He has been on dozens of committees of all sorts: scientific, curricular, administrative, recruitment and procurement.

Dr. Nabil Mirza

Dr. Mirza's postgraduate researches were oriented towards cryptography, the core of information and communication security. He has been teaching computer, electronics and communication engineering courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels since 2002. In addition to his teaching and research experience, he has an experience in ICT Business Analysis and Business management. His responsibilities in the business sector were the prime motivation to pursue higher education in information security. His research interests are mainly in secure communication systems and in Natural Language Processing. He is a member of IEEE, ACM, and ACS.

He is also a fellow at the Centre for the Study of Advanced and Emerging Economies at the University of London. Abdallah has served as a consultant for numerous respected NGOs to undertake economic feasibility studies in Lebanon. He has several publications in international renowned journals in the field of institutional economics. He is also involved in several EU funded projects such as UNAM and ELEMENT.
